Toronto’s Pearson Airport has to be one of the easiest airports to find a hotel around for the night, but you’d be having a much harder time finding something remotely “charismatic”. With this mindset, even under the more interesting Tapestry Collection brand, I did not have too high of an expectation here as it was a short stay and the opinions online were already mixed, but I’m happy that I found this hidden gem in the YYZ area.
My first impression, even considering the hotel was brand new, was that the design was outstanding, both in the room and in public areas. Check in was seamless and I was offered an upgrade into a corner suite, which was very tastefully appointed throughout, with some touches that reminds me of some more upscale brands like Marriott or Hilton’s own Canopy.
The restaurant on site was priced slightly higher than what I’d expect, but I had a car so I only went for breakfast and it was decent. The servers at breakfast were very delightful, and watching them entertain the kids sitting at the next table made me happy as well.
For a brand new property I expected some rough edges or “teething pain”, but I did not experience any issues, hard product or service-wise. No airport shuttle was a bummer, however the hotel did not advertise itself as an airport hotel despite being near YYZ, and free parking definitely made up for this somewhat. The only downside I found – bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper, also thanks to its proximity to YYZ – in fact it’s right underneath the final approach path of YYZ’s runway 05. As such, noise can become an issue especially during the morning rush at YYZ which unfortunately starts early – price to pay for the convenient location I guess!
Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It’s full of characters when the only other options are cookie-cutter Courtyards and Hamptons. Now, if only there’s an airport shuttle…
