Albeit its location, I chose the Element over the downtown options as it seemed like one of the less boring hotels – Element is supposed to be Marriott’s lifestyle long-stay brand, or so I thought. That was not exactly the case, but I am happy to report that the stay was okay.

Check-in was efficient, but overall the front desk team was not the most passionate I’ve seen. Although not a brand standard, I received an elite drink voucher redeemable at the Four Points which was appreciated. The studio suite was on the smaller side but functional with a full kitchen. Lighting was great, and I particularly enjoyed the brand’s bright and modern design philosophy. The room was clean in general, but seemed like my suite attendant forgot to take the dishes out of the dishwasher – I could not find any chinaware in the cupboard when I checked in and ended up finding them dripping wet in the dishwasher.

Breakfast was decent, though the staff working the breakfast could be cold/cranky at times, and why only chamomile tea and no caffeinated options were offered for breakfast was confusing to me.

Ultimately, I think my expectations were not exactly in line with what the brand was designed to achieve, however all around it was a decent option in the YYC area.
