(short review)

To begin, this is indeed your typical Holiday Inn Express. The experience was not special nor noteworthy in any way shape or form.

Let’s start with the good stuff – the gentleman at check-in was very friendly and accommodating, and allowed me to check-in a couple hours early (same can’t be said about his colleagues though…). The room itself was in decent shape, though not the newest of them all. I was not able to secure a room with a view, although in Golden it is hard to not have a half-decent mountain view so I was content with what I had.

Breakfast was good as well, although I found it interesting how the food is not being replenished past 9:40 when the buffet closes at 10.

Your typical HIX breakfast

My biggest complaint was cleanliness. The room itself seemed clean enough, but the amount of fruit flies in my room was straight up unacceptable. One or two, fine, but I had at least ten lounging around. I brought my dinner back to my room and yet was not able to enjoy it – I had to go to my car and eat there. In addition, I didn’t think the bathroom was properly cleaned as well, especially the sink area. Thankfully wipes were provided in the room so I wiped everything down myself.

Overall the hotel was okay I guess, and especially considering the other available options in Golden. It was a shame how an overall 4/5 experience turned into a sub-par one because of things that sounded trivial – like the flies.
