Before my stay I did not have high expectations as the two Ritz-Carltons in Beijing were (are) both known to be dated. However, my experience turned out to be great.
I redeemed points for my stay, and paid extra for an upgrade to the executive floor for the lounge experience – a must at Ritz properties if you ask me. My check-in was processed in the lounge, and it was a breeze. We were upgraded to a “corner premier suite”, which was an open-concept corner room – not so much of a suite but very well appointed nonetheless, with a surprisingly good view of the city. The bathroom layout and fixtures were up to Ritz standards. On the other hand, the room itself was, indeed, quite dated and needed TLC in certain areas.

We visited the lounge during meal hours and found the food okay, however the bar selection was great. I also particularly enjoyed the service here – everyone was pleasant to deal with from the front desk to our concierge car driver. Special shout out to Elaine and Gordon from the lounge, who we enjoyed some great chats with even after we checked out.

Ritz-Carlton stays are all about the personable service and customized experience, and in that sense I enjoyed my stay, even though no doubt the hotel was showing its age. That said, without a renovation, I’d start to wonder how they could justify their price tag pretty soon.
