Traditionally, Le Meridien locations are well-known for their tasteful designs, and I did not expect less from Le Meridien Zhengzhou, considering it was established to be the flagship Le Meridien location of Greater China, but OH WOW this hotel did not disappoint.

First off, the location of the hotel is not exactly central, but you can’t beat its reachability – there was a subway station and various bus terminals right downstairs, which means public transit can literally take you everywhere from this hotel. Arrival experience was a breeze, and my room was pre-upgraded to the executive floor. The lady checking me in was very pleasant, and so was the bell staff. The lobby, on the other hand, was more like an art gallery by itself from the darker but “grand” lighting to the well-thought out artifacts on display – even with the high expectations walking in, I was very positively surprised by how much effort they put in decorating everything with the most trendy, on-brand yet local items and touches.

And the same theme extended to the floors and my room. Normally I’m not a huge fan of dark ambiances in my room but this one gets a free pass because they managed to drag the contrast bar to the far right and yet somehow make it holistic. Not only that, but everything in the room was also there for a purpose, whether to serve functionally or to make a statement. Just, wow.

Even though some areas in the room reminded me of how old the hotel actually was, but the whole package aged so well that if I weren’t on a lookout for those I wouldn’t have noticed. Not a chance.

The executive lounge experience was splendid as well. The staff was warm and proactive. Food selection was on point especially during dinner service, and I especially enjoyed the house made desserts. The bar selection was awesome as well, although I would have loved to see some local inspirations – the same can be said for most Chinese lounge bars. I had breakfast in the restaurant and it was good, although I went towards the end so some plates were close to empty. There were many local options and made-to-order outlets as well.

To say the Le Meridien Zhengzhou was “well designed” is definitely an understatement – especially considering the hotel opened its door 10 YEARS AGO! Not only that, but the hotel did not go too far on being pretty and not care about being a hotel – in fact my experience far exceeded what I could ask for from a premium property. I cannot recommend this hotel enough – this is probably the best hotel in Zhengzhou especially if you are into design-y artsy stuff.

March 2026 Update:

It was unfortunate, but my most recent stay was very disappointing compared to my first visit. First of all, temperature control was an issue last time but this time it was even more prominent, as the hotel decided to not have central A/C turned on while it was 20+ degrees outside and sunny. Front desk promised “two cold air machines” which ended up being one single tower fan that did practically nothing except leaking all over the carpet and being incredibly loud. Front desk was apologetic but couldn’t do anything to rectify this, nor was any compensation offered. The lounge offering was significantly reduced versus my last experience, and the service team at the restaurant underwent some cost-cutting as well. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel still was a solid option, it was just extremely sad and disappointing to see those changes over the span of two years, and as the initial wow factors wore off, the other aspects of the hotel no longer deserved my wholehearted recommendation.
