To be honest, considering the rates I was paying and this hotel being in Moncton, I did not come here with the highest of expectations. Boy was I wrong – WOW the hard product was jaw-dropping.
During my visit, the hotel was not busy at all and the rates reflected that, so I decided to treat myself and splurge on a loft suite. I do not regret the decision because the suite was even better than I expected. It was filled with quirky but functional designs, full floor-to-ceiling window, a fully equipped kitchen, two washrooms and a full coffee station – none of the powder whitener stuff.
Bedroom was upstairs and a small sitting area comes with it, and the bed itself was comfy as well, as expected.
There was a full-service gym and a restaurant, and most of downtown Moncton was within reach by foot because Moncton’s downtown is tiny. Actually, exactly because Moncton is so tiny, this place blew my mind because it did not have to go all out to compete with everyone else hard-product wise. That being said, the human interactions I had here was regrettably not warm enough, and definitely not up to expectations if you think you are checking into a proper boutique hotel. The limited interactions I had with the front desk were purely transactional, and they did their job well, but I was not confident if I was 100% welcomed sometimes, just like how I feel at Hampton Inns I guess…
Anyways, rant over, and I’ll circle back to say that the Canvas still beats every single other downtown Moncton hotel for quirkiness and the boutique-y feel. Unfortunately it did not do enough for me to exclude the other options when I need a bed in Moncton, though I’d put it in the top 3 easily.
