About Me

My name is Gareth, I’m a nerd, an introvert, and I love traveling!

My journey started when I embarked on my first solo trip at the age of 15. Since then, I have visited more than 300 cities (mostly solo!) and have developed my own way of experiencing the destinations, and having a hospitality background, the hotel experience has always been a key part of my explorations.

I am active on review sites including TripAdvisor, but Hotel4Real is my safehouse where I record my real feelings about my hotel experience. Here, I go into the nitty-gritties and dissect the good and bad of my experience with no filter, guaranteed!

About RealScore

Now, the nerdy side of me won’t allow myself to just “feel” – I need something to quantify my preferences. So, over the years, I created a scoring system – RealScore. Each property is rated out of 10 in various areas from Service, Design to View and Food Quality, and the weighted average decides where the hotel stands among its competitors. The weights of each element is as follows:

Other considerations that added to or took away from my experience, such as Housekeeping, Maintenance and Upkeep, Membership Program and Recognition, are not rated in the scale but may sway the final score by -0.45 to +0.30.
